Marine fiberglass suppliers and repair shops will sell you any material you will need to carry out many types of repairs, or you could just hire them out to do the job for you. Most fiberglass repair work is done for small boats from these companies, but they can usually tackle bigger jobs as well. And really, why wouldn't they since it is money in their pockets? This applies just as much to cases where there is no structural damage, but where a gel coat needs to be replaced.

It might be easy to replace a gel coat without taking any care over the preparation, but it will not take long for the truth to emerge. If you apply a new coat without first ensuring that any previous deposits of wax or oil are removed, the new coat will be able to set or stick properly. The result will be patchy, and part of the boat surface may still be exposed to the elements. Make sure that you find someone who will give you an exact breakdown of the work to be carried out before the start.
